GAMPAC is the non-partisan political action committee of MAG that elects pro-physician candidates at the state level
Members of the General Assembly consider important legislation in Georgia each and every year, measures that address key issues like state licensure, Medicaid pay, insurance reform, and tort reform. That is why it is imperative for physicians to establish genuine, trust-based relationships with legislators in the state – and GAMPAC gives physicians the opportunity to build those kinds of long-lasting bonds.
GAMPAC is an easy and effective way for physicians to support candidates for political office in the state who want to enhance the practice environment in Georgia and who want to protect the patient-physician relationship.
With more than 500 members, GAMPAC has the resources and the brand recognition to be an effective advocate for physicians in Georgia. For example, GAMPAC supports legislators who…
- Supported the physician autonomy bill that passed in 2012
- Supported the prompt pay bill that passed in 2011
- Supported a budget that appropriated additional funds for graduate medical education
- Are champions for prescription drug monitoring legislation that will curb prescription drug abuse
- Oppose new taxes or pay cuts for physicians
- Oppose initiatives that would compromise patient safety (e.g., allowing pharmacists to administer vaccines with a blanket waiver or allowing
- APRNs to order images at their discretion)
In addition, GAMPAC hosts an exclusive luncheon for its members at MAG’s House of Delegates meeting each year – an event that has featured such prominent leaders as Georgia Attorney General Sam Olens, U.S. Sen. Johnny Isakson, U.S. House of Representatives Majority Leader Rep. Eric Cantor, and Past President of the American Medical Association Donald Palmisano, M.D., J.D.
