MAG calling on physicians to urge Gov. Deal to veto S.B. 153

Join us!

The Medical Association of Georgia (MAG) is encouraging every physician in the state to contact Gov. Nathan Deal as soon as possible to urge him to VETO S.B. 153, a measure that would allow optometrists to perform injections in and around a patient’s eye once they are enrolled in or have completed a 30-hour certification training course.

Gov. Deal will decide what action he will take on this bill in the next three weeks – so it is essential to contact him to urge him to veto S.B. 153 as soon as possible.

MAG is encouraging physicians to…

– Write a brief letter to Gov. Deal to urge him to veto S.B. 153 on your practice’s letterhead. Stress that S.B. 153 will place Georgians at risk of blindness and other serious eye complications and point out that the average Georgian doesn't know the difference between an optometrist and a medical eye doctor. List the name of every physician in your practice at the end of the letter. Also encourage your patients, practice staff and other physicians you know to write letters. Letters should be mailed to Gov. Nathan Deal at 206 Washington Street, 111 State Capitol, Atlanta, GA 30334.

–  Call Gov. Deal’s office at 404.656.1776. Leave a brief voice mail message urging him to veto S.B. 153 – once again stressing the aforementioned key points.

Contact MAG Government Relations Director Derek Norton at dnorton@mag.org or 404.274.4210 with questions.
