GBI arrests NP for PDMP infraction
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation has announced that on July 28 it arrested a nurse practitioner for “illegally accessing and disseminating sensitive patient prescription information stored within the PDMP (Prescription Drug Monitoring Program) database.”
It said that it initiated an investigation at the request of the Georgia Drugs and Narcotics Agency (GDNA), which is responsible for maintaining the database.
A GBI press release pointed out that, “[The nurse] was authorized to access the PDMP as a nurse practitioner but [she] violated the law when she researched prescription drug history of two former employees and disseminated the sensitive information to a third party.”
GBI also noted that the arrest “was the first under Georgia code section 16-13-64.”
