The Georgia Department of Public Health (DPH) says that is has received complaints from residents of Georgia and other states who have received suspicious phone calls that are related to a health care survey that appear to come from a DPH phone number.

“Right now, we do not know the real reason for the calls or what the caller is truly looking for,” explains DPH Inspector General Rick Keheley. “We do know the calls are not coming from the Georgia Department of Public Health.”

DPH is encouraging Georgians be “extremely cautious when participating in health-related telephone surveys.”

DPH says that it “does occasionally use telephone surveys to gain information on health trends…[however] DPH: Will never ask for religious information; Will never ask for credit card information; Will never try to sell goods or services; [and] Will always provide call back or contact information for verification.”

Georgians who have questions or who would like to report a suspicious phone call should contact DPH at 404.656.4409 or reportdphfraud@dhr.state.ga.us.
